Hello, I am new to the forums and wanted to thank everyone for the great information provided here. After reading many posts I decided to go ahead and get a Phillips DSR-6000 and modify it by adding a 80 GB B drive. It was very easy I had the unit completely updated to the latest software and th drive installed in about 2 hours. I am a computer technician and have some basic knowledge of Linux, so it was a breeze. The only question I have is about the need for a 80 conducter IDE cable. Is the Tivo hard drive controller UDMA 66 or 100 capable. If it is why would they ship the units with a standard 40 conducter cable. If not I can not see why anyone would fill the need to add one.

It only uses ATA33, but the 80 pin cable is usually considered to be more tolerant to EM disturbance in the case (unshielded power supply), etc.
