Just a note to thanks to everyone responsible for the great tools and guides!
For other DSR6000 DirecTivo potential upgraders:
1. Download Mfstools 1.1 per the Hinsdale guide and use it to retore your image to your upgraded drive (assuming you are replacing your A Drive).
2. DEFINITELY make sure you pay attention to the Hinsdale Guide when starting up the TivoMad expansion process - sounds stupid but if you don't use the DirecTivo command - "maddtb4/setupcd.sh" - you will THINK you have got it done, the software will tell you blessed your drive B, but it WON"T BOOT UP. Going back and redoing it with the right command, obviously, will make your life easier!
3. Get up off the sofa and do it! 35 hours up to 230 hours is worth it (twin 120GB upgraded drives).
:D
Good luck -

is the 230 hours for the 120's basic?,Ive read on another post that directtivo does only best qualiy,is that true?
Posted by: Dojimaster
I hope so but I don't think so. DirecTivo reports the hours as "Variable, up to 230hours" or some such launguage.
Perhaps one of the tecnical geniuses can shed some light on it.

The DirecTiVos record the mpeg stream as it comes directly form the satellite.
It does not decode and then re-encode based on a quality setting you make. This would just be plain old silly. Double encoding causes picture quality to decrease.
The signal coming from the satellite is compressed to be the most efficient for the needs of the program being sent. A "talking heads" program has the most compression and thus if that’s all you recorded you could probably get 230h
Sports and anything with alot of movement has the least compression and as a result if this is all that you recorded you will get way less the 230h, perhaps as little as 60 hours (just a guess on this number those.)
