NBC Increases Stake in TiVo

Wow... this is pretty interesting. Sounds like NBC is still in TiVo's corner. Or are they trying to force TiVo into theirs?
"NBC revealed Friday it has nearly quadrupled the stake it owns in digital video recorder maker TiVo."

I searched forum here and didn't see this topic yet. I find that hard to believe though. :D

Dollar cost averaging.....

The thread title is wrong. NBC has not increased its stake in Tivo. It can, but it hasn't.
Either way, <10% barely gets it a seat at the table for control. They'd better call AOLTW if they want anything done to Tivo.

The thread title is correct. According to the Variety article, the HAVE already increased their stake to 4 million shares up from the 1 million shares they had in December. The other article mentioned by another in this thread was an earlier report.

I've only done a cursory view but it appears that the Variety author has confused common with convertibles.
It appears that NBC *CAN* increase its stake because it purchased convertible debt that can be turned into equity.
Variety probably saw the investment (cash) by NBC and assumed it meant common stock. The private placement was convertible debt and warrants, no common.
Since NBC holds instruments convertible into 2.9 million shares of common, NBC has invested in Tivo once again but it has not increased its common onwership stake. It CAN own 4 million shares, but only owns 1 million right now.

Well, I stand corrected then. All I know for sure is that most of what you said is well beyond my very limited understanding of the stock market. :D

NBC is in bed with Microsoft. Is it possible that Microsoft is positioning itself for some future play? Remember the MS business model, when you cannot compete, acquire.

Does anybody ever wonder why TiVo's never gone mainstream with any kind of commercial skip despite the frequency of the posts here about it? Even the 2.5 uses a back door code that few people, except those who frequent this forum, know about (and forces you to give up another feature). What do you think NBC's position on this would be? Hmm...

Tivo has played nicey nice with broadcasters from the beginning. That's why commercial skip is backdoor only. Always will be.
As for the thread title and you Joe, no harm, no foul. The fact is NBC has rights to increase their stake but has not done so. If/when they do, I think it'll be material and Tivo would put out a press release.
Either way, though, it doesn't much matter.
