Suggestions using new Salvador Dali algorithm

Ok, after I discovered my Tivo's strange attraction for Daisy Donovan, late last night I caught it recording something, and wondered what it was.
It was the BBC Choice "SIGN OFF" program, which is an exciting static screen shown between 2am and 6.30am, and Tivo recorded all 4.5 hours of it.
I checked the rating, and Tivo told me I had given SIGN OFF two thumbs up.
Now, I'm pretty sure I didn't do that. Anyone else seen anything like this?

Perhaps you just picked up the remote awkwardly when you weren't actually paying attention the buttons?

which reminds me...
quite often i look through the suggestions and see an entry like "BBC ONE" for something like 3 weeks in the future and no other details. how can it possibly choose something like this as a suggestion when it has no data about it?

this happens when it's run out of guide data for the channel. channels 1-5 are only added to on a weekly basis, so you can have somewhere between 6-15 days of data at any one time. when you run out of data, you get "BBC ONE" repeated ad nauseum.
On the subject of suggestions, I'm afraid I find suggestions to be really off the wall in 2.5.5. In 1.5.2 they were pretty spot on, but 2.5.5 is just plain weird. It's not even consistently weird. examples
tivo records any documentary it can find. I have 3 thumbs downed every single one it's recorded, and it STILL does it.
Yesterday for the first time ever it recorded FOUR children's programmes, and I've NEVER recorded a children's programme on it.
the other week, it suddenly decided I like sport (never recorded a sports programme either).
I don't know what they did to the algorithm, but it aint an improvement as far as I'm concerned! :(

I think koogy was wondering why TiVo thought he would enjoy "BBC 1" when it doesn't have a clue what the programme will be about. It's just another example of the random nature of our new suggestions algorithm.

yeah, you're right, I misread the post.
Anyone else found suggestions to be crap in 2.5.5?
I even zapped my suggestions database in the hope that it was only bad because it didn't like the accumulated garbage from 1.5.2. No such luck.

He He
Your in for lots of Tubbie Custard then - Most TiVo's go through a period of recording teletubbies and tweenies - I think it is part of them growing up. :D
I have turned suggestions off now, like you found 2.5.5 was not very helpful.

Mine was weird at first, then I reset the thumbs db, then it went all silent on me, and now it's pretty good. I never give anything more than one thumb down, and that's only in extreme circumstances. I admit that most of the suggestions it records are things which I have explicitly given thumbs up to, but it records very little weird stuff (and thankfully it grew out of cartoons a while ago).

Mine is now recording 3 or 4 episodes of Real Rooms a day! Fine by me, just gives me a space remaining indication.

Yes, the suggestions did get really weird with the upgrade to 2.5.5. So I reset them.
They stayed weird for quite some time, but now (some 4 weeks later) they are starting to settle down a bit more.
Maybe iust takes time.

What has happened here is that at some point your Tivo has been low on guide data for BBC1 and Tribune have done that thing where they just name blocks of 2 hours at a time the same. You may have accidently thumbed this, so now when that appears on the listings it gets suggested. Of course Tivo will never actually try and record it as by the time the right day comes around the listings have updated with the real programmes and it has dissappeared from the suggestions.

Wow, can you get mine to do that!
Actually I have had 2.5.5 since rollout week 1, and I cleared out my thumbs at that time. The suggestions are still mostly crap, BUT! It always records the programs that I normally watch but forgot to record them. I have even cancelled stuff that I have SP to because of clashes and suggestions have picked up the later showing, even though the stuff in the suggestions screen is totally off the wall.
