My Amstrad digibox has been playing up and getting steadily worse since I got Tivo. Co-incidence?

Having done lots of research, I have found out the Amstrad DRX100 tuner is very prone to packing up when it gets too hot.

Although my Digibox may well have packed up anyway, I suspect the extra heat in the cabinet from Tivo has helped things along a bit.

The moral of my story: don't take any chances - ventilate that cabinet now! - Satcure can supply cabinet fans for this purpose as well as a mini fan that sits inside the Digibox.

It's too late for me but this may help someone else.

It was a "very" common fault for the tuner to fail on Amstrads.
You can get it repaired by de-soldering it (if capable) sending it to a company in Manchester called MCES ?? Sorry no phone number, and for about Ł30 the sent a re-furbished unit. Re-solder it in and that was the standard repair on 90% of Amstrads !!

Sky offer a fixed repair or Ł60 so if you still subscribe you can call them out, they will go through the motions of checking dish and LNB but as a last resort will change the receiver..

Why does my heading on the left say "new member" but yours says "sizeable member" ?? Can i get one of them ???????
It would impress the wife, she always says i never get anything useful off the net !!

You have to pass the Tivo Endowment Test to get one:

1. Phone Tivo Customer Service to register interest
2. Wait three weeks
3. Phone again
4. Wait three more weeks
5. Go to your member profile
6. See box under date of birth which holds member description
7. Tell it like it is
8. Get a phone call from Customer Service checking everything is OK
9. Find wife/husband is suddenly much happier
