Delay in sound

Can anyone help me please.
I have just bought a new DVD player and I have an amp and surround system. I thought I would be able to play my DVD picture through the TIVO, by plugging it into the VCR scart, and having the sound seperately connected from my DVD to the amp.
But..in this configuration the sound is about 2 seconds in front of the picture and so I cannot watch it this way. Should this happen or do I have a duff Tivo.
I have resolved this by plugging into the DVD into the second scart of my TV but if I didn't have a second scart what could I have done?

This is normal. What you are seeing is the video being slightly delayed as it is buffered through the tivo. If you ever switch between bypass TV and Tivo TV you'll notice about 1 second or so delay in picture and sound between the too. This is because the Tivo is recording the live input and then playing it immediately, which causes a small delay. Its all part of the "pause live tv" feature.
So.. your DVD picture is being buffered but your audio isn't as its not going through the Tivo. If you didn't have two scarts your only solution would be to plug the scart from the DVD in to the VCR connection and watch the DVD using the VCR bypass, which should then be in sync.
Hope that made sense !!

The only problem with that is I wouldn't be using my Co-axial digital out from DVD player to the amp, which makes DTS and Dolby Digital unusable. I don't think I'll be copying many DVD's anyway so I can live with it.
At least my Tivo is knackered ( Edit: I meant isn't knackered ), so thanks again.

This is normal the picture is going through the Tivo buffer and the sound is not.
Do you not have enough scarts sockets on the TV to wire independently?
you could buy a scart switch about £30 or wire through the amp

What you are trying to achieve should work as I do it.
Make sure your DVD's output is connected to the VCR scart not AUX, and press the VCR button on your remote to view the output.
The picture and sound should then be in sync.

I've just realised something. I did have my DVD to the VCR but when the DVD was turned on the TIVO wouldn't operate properly. It seemed to be interfering with my Tivo in some way so I couldn't watch anything on Tivo. This is no good because I am using my DVD player to play my CD's and Mp3's and sometimes I like to have the Tele on while my music is playing.
I connected it to AUX socket like Gary said, that's where the sync problem lies.
So it raises the question-why is my DVD player interfering with my Tivo?

Yes you'd still use the co-axial or optical connection to your Amp from the DVD, and use the scart to your tivo. So the sound is going directly to your amp and the picture is going to the tv via the tivo. When watching using VCR bypass the sound will be in sync.

Interfering in what way? Try turning off VCR SCART control.
Also you can use AUX so long as you press the AUX bypass button on TiVo to view the picture - that should be in sync too.
