Finally, my digital camera came!

My wife and I got a digital camera from my parents for our anniversary. What, you say, does this have to do with TiVO. Well, now, instead of constantly scribling changes to my SP/WL lists on a piece of paper, I can take digital images of the SPM.
For anyone new to TiVO (I still consider myself a newbie from January), having this information is key if you ever get into a situation where you have to rebuild your SP list.
Plus, its just fun to take pictures of TiVO with the digi camera.

I wish I had a digital camera (still using film .. although I usually prefer film anyway) when I upgraded my two DTiVos recently. What I ended up doing is using that thing "they" refer to as a "VCR." I had to drive to Circus City and buy this big plastic thingie .. they call it "videotape." (Crazy stuff!)
After I read the manual on how to use this 'crazy' device and felt knowledgable enough to use it, I inserted the tape, crossed my fingers, and recorded all of the screens of my DTiVo before I restored from a virgin backup.
I made sure that I got: SysInfo, SPs, WLs, etc. It worked pretty well. My original drives are now shelved. (I wanted to restore my original dual-drive DTiVo to a 120GB expanded A: drive).
But a dig. camera would've saved me from having to roll, linear-ly (I made up a new word) through five minutes of screen scrolling.

I did the digital camera screen shot thing on my DirecTiVo when we were treated to a "Every Channel DTV Has For A Weekend" promotion last weekend. Snapping away at the Channels I Receive screens so I could set it back if needed after the freebie weekend.
Went shopping at Best Buy one weekend. Why take notes, just snap a photo of the info card with the price. Needed a weird shaped pipe fitting one day. Problem was the old one was still attached & in use. Snap a photo and use the LCD screen to match it up at Home Depot. Many cool uses for a digital camera besides birthday parties & vacations.

So what camera did you get?

Oooh, sorry. I should have realized someone would want to know what kind we got. We got the Olympus c-700 Ultra Zoom and a 128mg card, plus a set of Monster NiMh batteries (1800 MaH).
My Dad tried to push the 3020 because it is 3 MP versus the 2 of the C-700 (and is the one he has). But my wife and I rarely do big enlargements. Typically we just do 3x5s and sometimes 4x6s, which the c-700 should handle just fine. We wanted the camera mostly due to the zoom. For those that do not know, the C-700 has a 10x optical zoom. Most digi cams, at least ones the size of the C-700 and 3020 have at best 2.5x or 3x optical zoom.
Plus, since we go the 128mb card, we will have more than enough space to flip the quality up for a series of shots we think we may blow up to 8x10s.
It was really a no brainer for us to get the C-700.
If anyone has any other questions about the camera, I will gladly try to answer them via e-mail for you....
