Hello there;
My never hacked tivo (sony) started giving me problems... Hiccups on the image and sound every 10-20 seconds. So I tried to replace the drive:
- remove the drive from tivo (hdc) place it and new drive on pc (hdd) and run 'dd' to copy a 30gig quantum drive into my new WD 80 gig drive.
I also ran 'mad32' to expand to the full capacity of the drive.

Now for the problem:
- The tivo boots and works (saves shows, plays shows, ..).
- If I press the 'Tivo' key, The 'tivo menu' pops up, but I cannot do anything until a long time out (5-10 minutes).
- The Tivo introduction ( the part my kids like the best) is gone
- The blue background on the 'Live TV" menu 'Now playing menu' is gone.

How can I fix this ? It is possible that the image on the original quantum drive was corrupted to the point of producing this result ? If that were the case, is there a way I can obtain a copy(!) of the system somewhere ?

A moron refers to someone who restores a 1.2 backup to a 1.3 TiVo, causing problems for TiVo tech support.

You haven't done anything to jeopardize your old drive as far as I know. But it does sound like you need a fresh 2.5.1 backup on CDR since your TiVo drive got too damaged to copy successfully.
