Thanks Hinsdale for the HowTo and all those who contributed software to the boot CD. They are fantastic.

Today I upgraded both my SATT60 and DSR6000. My Sony now has 2 maxtor 120G's for a total of 230 hours. My DSR6000 has 1 maxtor 120 for 110hours.

I replaced the fans with the higher flow Sunon 60mm (using #6 X 1 1/4" screws). I first used an adapter to hook it to 12v. It was WAY too loud. I put it back to the 7v plug and it was virtually silent. With the maxtors on "quiet", my TiVos are much quieter than stock. Temp is at 48-50 in both machines. Pretty much same as before the upgrade. (I have them both up on 1/2" wood supports to increase air flow under them. (There's another thread describing this. It works!)

First, I made and tested backups. I later put them on a CD and archived them on a shelf with the original disks. I used "dd" to preserve recordings and then used the DTiVoMad 4.0.

I really had no problems whatsoever. Everything in the HowTo worked as advertised. There is no studdering/stoppeling.

I also feel better now that I know if I have a drive failure, I'll have no problem fixing it. I can just put the original back in while I shop for a new large drive...

Thanks guys!

Tim
