2nd Drive Crash On Phillips upgrade
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I upgraded my phillips unit with a 81.9GB Maxtor
keeping the first disk in place just adding the second following all instructions, It worked fine, except, for it freezing for about 2 seconds about once a night. I felt that was acceptable!
yesterday it went into the continuous re-boot mode
saying wait 24 hours still it would not boot. I took the Second drive out and placed it in the computer, It will not even recognize there is a drive there.
I did not back up the A drive and I am hoping I can just replace the B drive. Any Help is needed

I would run the maxtor diagnostics on the new drive. Make sure all of the pins on the drive are all present and straight. Also try placing the drive on your PC's Primary IDE as a slave, (hdb); Some computer's like to be a pain when you use the secondary IDE.
If the new drive is bad, you will have to restore the "A" drive.

P.S.
Your TiVo may have locked the new drive, I can't remember if TiVo's lock the "B" drives or not....
Use qunlock as described in the Hinsdale guide.

Exact same thing happeneded to me. Got Maxtor to replace the drive and the replacement is happy as can be...

mbzsales,
Well if the IDE pins are all ok then it definitely sounds like a bad drive. Maxtor has a very good warranty program. Tell them what your drive is doing and you shouldn't have any problem getting a new one. Maybe they will also compensate you for the "pain and suffering" caused by your not having a functioning TiVo ;)

Thanks for all your input, If I get a new B drive do I just Bless it and put it back into the Tivo or do I need to do something to the A drive and if so what?
