About the PC used for Mfstools backup and blessing: is it necessary that the PC's BIOS correctly identify the drive settings on the IDE channels, or does the Linux boot on Kazymyr's CD take care of that?

Most of the time, it doesn't matter. You are advised to check what the Linux boot shows the disk size to be (use shift-page-up, I think, to scroll back to the appropriate boot message.)

Typically Linux doesn't pay attention to what the bios has to say about ide drives. Too many older systems have bios induced limits with respect to ide.

If the BIOS is giving you problems (by forcing what it detects into Linux), turn off the drive autodetection and set the drive to "none" in the BIOS. Linux will detect it correctly.
