Hi
Sorry to be a bit of a thickie but I'm trying to figure out what I need to do in order to add another hard drive to my 6020 single drive Tivo.
I read the hinsdale howto but I'm still not sure what I need to do....could some kind soul spell it out for me in words of one syllable or less?
You'd think at my age that I'd be able to follow instructions but I can't get my head round what needs to be done to the new disk!
Thanks for your patience:)

The Hinsdale document is so complicated because it applies to every type of system out there. It would be a bit more straightforward if there were individual documents for each type of upgrade eg. (1) single drive TiVo (2) dual drive TiVo (3) DirecTiVo etc. etc. but hey, the guy who compiles it isn't getting a revenue from it, so I don't blame him not going to all the extra trouble of having to do that.
My best advice to you would be to go through the document and literally scribble out all the stuff that doesn't apply to you. You need to open up the TiVo first and check how many drives you've got in there to be able to do that. I read the document through several times until I 'got' all of it.
A word of warning - if you haven't put a hard drive in a *PC* before and formatted it, I wouldn't do the TiVo upgrade it if I were you, I'd get somebody else to give me a hand. Sure TiVo is even better with an upgrade, but it turns into a heap of metal if you screw it up. :)

There are people out there in the community that will upgrade the unit for you! The Hinsdale FAQ is reasonably stright forward providing you have a PC to connect the TiVo drives onto.
You must also have a DOS/FAT16 or FAT32 partition to copy the existing TiVo drive image too! If you follow his instructions slowly and carefully you should be able to upgrade with little trouble.
