I thought that the idea of networking the TiVo was to be able to pull off the vid to burn as VCD? I'm sure I read a post on this somewhere that this was now possible....

Yes of course that is the best quality solution.
However digital extraction is not condoned by TiVo, and you may have a few other RGB sources that you would like to capture!

It is a shame that all cheap cards only seem to do s-video.

I can't understand their problem with this (I know about copyright etc...:rolleyes: ) Since you can buy a Philips DVD recorder from Currys for just over £500 all this capture card nonsense & hush hush forbiden threads is a load of poo.:mad:

Knowing Philips I wouldn't be the least surprised if that DVD recorder converted to S-Video internally just to spite us, before converting to Component to write to the disc!

This Philips DVD recorder appears to be able to take RGB in and out. Not sure what it does internally.
