HDR112 Hard Drive Crash
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

The original hard drive in my Philips HDR112 crashed and there is no chance for recovery. I have a 100GB 5400RPM Maxtor ready to install but don't know where to start. I saw a post a few days ago about someones HDR212 crashing and there were links posted for a Virgin Image that were removed. If anyone can supply information as to were I can find an image that will work for my HDR112 and 100GB Maxtor drive would be greatly appreciated. You can email me the info at dneumannjr@wi.rr.com or private message would work also.
Thanks for all your help.......
P.S> I have a friend that also has a HDR112 that has replaced his drive already. His original drive is intact and available is there a problem with taking the iamge off of his drive and placing it on my new drive? Will it work without causing problems with his tivo service and mine?? What happens with serial numbers and such are the taken with also.
Thanks Again!!!!!

I've not tried taking an image from another drive but from reading many posts about stand-alones, you should be able to make a backup and copy the image to your 100 GB drive.
I did my own upgrade from an HDR312 to an 100 GB drive. See the following thread: http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-v...&threadid=54788
Hope this helps.

If all else fails, and many people do have problems with images downloaded from sites, we have backup drives availble for $39 shipped. They're drives we've pulled out of Philips HDR112 refurbs, so you could use them as A drives or do a device copy to your 100 GB drive and use it as a backup. Might be one of the easier/cheaper alternatives . . .

You can backup his drive using Tiger's MFStool program, and use the same program to restore to either your original drive (check it with Maxtor's PowerMax utilities first, though). If your original drive is defective, you can still restore the image to your 100GB drive and then use TiVoMad to 'expand' the filesystems accordingly. This will not affect your subscription info, as the subscription is tied to your serial number which lives in firmware on the motherboard of your unit.
