How long do run the burn-in test on your new B Drive?

I was having stopple troubles with a Maxtor 80g drive and was able to use their advanced replacement. With the PowerMax software I was able to run the burn-in test 2 times. Was that enough? How many times do you run it on a suspect drive?

You're probably fine. I usually run 20 passes, that takes about 24 hours, and it's never detected a problem. I just like overkill, I guess.

Why is your replacement drive "suspect"?

You can run it as many times as you'll feel confident it'll work. Some people don't bother, and feel it's a waste of time, while others need to run it several times to make sure.

Me personally, I take the drive, format it FAT16/FAT32 , and run SpinRite once on it. If it doesn't find anything, then I declare it good. I usually make a pass through the manufacturer tools as well...
