Can TiVo record a DVD?

I am a newbie here, tried searching but found only info on DVD-RW.

If I understand the VCR-copy protection on DVDs correctly, shouldn't it be possible to record a DVD analog feed with TiVo and then play it back to a VCR to bypass the protection?

Anyone know?

While TiVo can record a dvd without displaying the copy protection it does not strip the macrovision so recording to a vcr will not work.
