Clicked on the "Take Tivo for a Test Drive" After a few clicks in, the page says that you can record two shows at the same time. A disclaimer below says that only DirecTivo does this. I know it does it now, so the last statement was confusing to me. "Tivo intends to provide this feature in its service update later this summer." Who is this being provided to? SA or DirecTivo Series 2? If I buy a DirecTivo today I'll have dual tuners in a few days.

I think they just have not updated that statement on their website. Last summer is when 2 tuners for directivo was introduced. As of right now I dont think tivo is planning 2 tuners for SA

Sounds like BB has their info wrong. The current service update, 3.0 does not let you record two shows at once. And I do not see how a software update could do it anyway! a Tivo would need a second tuner plus a second set of mpeg2 chip.

Now maybe with a stand alone 'mini Tivo' box plugged into a USB port Tivo could handle this, but still that's new hardware not a service update..

That message was indeed referring to the DirecTiVo units, and was referring to the service update that rolled out the dual tuner upgrade to those units last summer. (For those new to the TiVolution, the DirecTiVo's did not support the dual tuners right out of the box - a service update added that ability slightly later.)

The SA hardware is not capable of dual tuners, nor are dual tuner SA's planned at this time as far as I've heard.

That sucks for the SA people. I have DirecTiVo. Wouldn't even buy the thing last June until I confirmed that TiVo was working on the update. Was really glad when I finally got it. (September?)

The 2 tuners add so much flexibility. I don't understand why they don't make 2 tuner SAs.

That animation/description is ancient.

DirecTiVos got the ability to record 2 shows at once on August 21, 2001. And it helps that the hardware supports it! There's two tuners inside.

They're having a hard enough time selling them at $299 and $399. How many people would buy at $599?
