TIVO - TLA Magic Decoder Ring

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Ok, I've been reading here for a few weeks; you guys are seriously into using those TLA's (three letter acronyms) in your threads. To the uninitiated readers here, these acronyms are not so obvious...

I browsed throught the FAQ's and found little help. I have a start at a magic decoder ring for all of the acronyms you guys seem to use all the time.

DTV - Direct TV
DVR - Digital Video Recorder
EPG -
FSI - Free Space Indicator (yah, right!)
KAM -
KUID - Keep Until I delete
PVR - Personal Video Recorder
RH - Recording History
SP -
SUID - Save Until I Delete
SA - Standalone System (vs DTivo)
UTV - Ultimate TV
WL - Wishlist
VBR -
VOD - Video on Demand

Funnier ones:
GDF - Geek Drool Factor
WAF - Wife Acceptance Factor (critical!)

Please help fill in the blanks and maybe add a few more I'm sure I have missed. This would be MOST helpful to me!!

Thanks,

OHC (One Happy Camper)

Well, in your list, the holes are as follows:

EPG - ?? - don't think I've seen this one used.
KAM - Keep At Most (as in, "keep at most 5 episodes")
SP - Season Pass
VBR - Variable Bit Rate

You also forgot what is probably the most famous acronym around these parts... though admittedly it's a four-letter acronym...
PTCM - Pre-Tivo Central Message

EPG = Electronic Program Guide

EPG -- Electronic Program Guide.

Don't forget SPM: Season Pass Manager

and also: DAM: Mothers Against Dyslexia. :)

That's funny, most of the posts I read nowadays usually involve WTF or RTFM. ;)

Don't forget VBI (vertical blanking interval), comes up a lot in discussing closed captioning SNAFUs.

How could we leave out "RB"?

KUID = SUID = Save Until I Delete.

Thank you, Phil. I was having a down day but that literally made me LOL.

In the early days of the Internet, I was browsing a NASA FTP site and found such a list. It was about four pages long with a lot of guessable stuff but mostly military terms. I'll never forget though, right in the B's:

B.E.M. Bug Eyed Monster

Not an acronym, but what the hell does all the pony talk mean?

Posted by: NFLnut

Maybe this is a no-brainer, but:

"DTiVo" = DirecTV Receiver with TiVo Service

Not exactly a three-letter acronym but a time-saver nonetheless!

P.S. "VBR" usually means, in TiVo-land, "Variable Bit Recording," but "Variable Bit Rate" is usually what it stands for elsewhere.

Along with Variable Bit Rate (VBR) which is enabled on Series I stand alone systems when you choose Save Disk Space (SDS), you have the default of Constant Bit Rate (CBR).

SPM - Season Pass Manager

Here's the oldest reference I could find. Guess what: it wasn't by foo monkey

http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-v...+pony#post11597

There's a forum member here (foo monkey) who usually responds with "I want a pony" and nothing more when someone complains about something (a feature they'd like added, etc.)
