How long for Best Buy exclusive on Series 2?

Does anyone know for how long Best Buy will have an exclusive on selling Tivo Series2? I have had a couple of negative experiences with them and would prefer to give my money to someone else.
Yes, I know that Series2 is available online direct from Tivo. However, afaik, it's not possible to get an extended warranty online. My extended warranty on my Series 1 SA was $42 for 2 yrs. at Good Guys which seemed worth it to me just for the peace of mind.

They're exclusively at Best Buy either until TiVo makes an agreement with another electronics retailer to sell their branded units, or another manufacturer (such as Sony) comes out with Series 2 hardware, which could be sold at other stores.

Sony recently signed a new licensing agreement to make Series2 based units, and they are not restricted to which retailer they sell to...no one knows any specifics on their new units or when they will they expect to release them. Many guesses are for this Summer/Fall...

As long as we're guessing, I suspect Sony will target somewhere around Labor Day Weekend for a Series II release. That puts them on store shelves in large numbers for the Holiday shopping season and gives them a little time to build buzz momentum for the real rush. It also gives them time to ramp up for a Series II DirecTivo by Thanksgiving (well, I can hope, can't I)?

The first message in this thread referred to the benefit of an extended warranty from Best Buy. I just wanted to point out that if you NEVER buy extended warranties on anything (Electronics, appliances, cars), the money you save would easily pay for a replacement product on the very few things that actually break. Extended warranties are the biggest rip-off in consumer electronics. They trick you by making you think about just the one item, and the money you might spend if it broke down. But when you put all of those avoided extra fees together, you've got plenty of money for repairs and replacements.

True, but how many of us actually set aside the $40 - 100 it would cost to extend the warranty on each piece of electronics we buy, and use it as a "repair fund"? I know I don't.

I don't specifically set aside this money, but I do always have some savings, and by not spending on extended warranties, this savings is inherently bigger. If I check out repair statistics in something like Consumer Reports, it looks like there is around a 5% chance of something needing a repair out of warranty. Given that extended warranties are 10-30% of the purchase price, I'm saving plenty of money to have a few hundred in savings for repairs or replacements.

anyone have a link to something that says Sony is making Series 2 machines?

I don't think an official announcement has been made yet, but I think it's been implied in the past that they will be making them, especially considering Sony's licensing agreement with TiVo.
