Plenty of space, but Tivo won't us it?

Hi,
A few days ago I upgraded my D-TiVo (Hughes) by adding a Maxtor 5400 80gig drive. The upgrade went without a hitch and the System Information indicates 108 hours. But here's my concern, with all that extra space, I would have expected Tivo to start recording 'Suggestions'. None have been recorded in the three days since the upgrade and I confirmed that the option was turned on. I added together the current recordings saved on disk and it sums to only 28 hours. Also, the delete dates for all recently recorded (after the upgrade) shows are still less than a week out, which makes no sense if there is plenty of space to keep them.
Can anyone shed some light on this? Is it possible that Tivo is not using the extra disk space? Thanks for any help!

I upgraded my Series II and it did start recording suggestions right away, however, by default it always says that shows will be saved for only two days. I don't think that changes. Anyone else have a different experience?

Yep, plus it won't record suggestions if they conflict with explicitly scheduled items, SPs, or Wishlists.

Even after an upgrade (mine was from 30 hours to 145 hours), the "save until" date won't get any longer. The program will eventually show a yellow circle with an "!" in it, but it won't be deleted until your disk fills up. I have such programs on my "Now Playing" list that have been that way since mid-January.
As long as you have Tivo's suggestions being recorded (once that begins happening for you!), there is no danger of any of the yellow-circle programs being deleted.

Thanks for the feedback. I guess I'll just keep waiting for those suggestions to start recording!

Go rate some more programs with the thumbs up/thumbs down key to give TiVo a jump start!

Also, make sure you do the obvious - check to see that you have auto-record of Suggestions enabled! :)

That was the 1st thing I checked; figured my kids or wife had 'accidentally' turned it off.
I'll try giving some other shows more Thumbs up. I may also just try a re-boot. Thanks again!

Glad to hear I'm not the only one.

As an update, it's been a week and still no recorded suggestions. I'm going to set Tivo to record a 12 hour block over night just to push it past 35 hours. At least then I'll be sure it's using the second drive.

Well, I am now sure that my second drive is working; 42 hours recorded! As for the Tivo suggestions, I checked the list and there are 3 shows scheduled to record over then next couple of weeks. So in the end, there was nothing wrong, just my paranoia. Thanks again to everyone who helped out!

Having just upgraded last Wednesday, this is something I was concerned about. I am getting suggestions recorded, checked last night, I'm up to about 55 hours of recordings on my ~106 hour Hughes.
But all of my SP recordings are being changed to the yellow dot, no ! yet. Are you saying they change to yellow indicating they can be deleted, but won't yet.
And something I've read in other threads, but not experienced, will an SP get deleted so a suggestion can be recorded?

Nope, suggestions are just one step above empty space in priority. they will e deleted to make room for SP materials.

what would be neat, and I've suggested this to Tivo, is to mark recordings people are watching, whether suggestions, user recorded, etc as a higher priority for keeping than std ones in that class.
My Tivo erased a program I was halfway through watching (a suggestion) and left a bunch of crap suggestions that were not touched.

Changing it to 'Save until I delete' would work.
