Has anyone else see the ad for pvrspeed.com? They are selling AIRnet, and TurboNet. They link to deal database and to tivocommunity for support. Does Jaffa have an exclusive w/ 9thtee?

They make PVRs urinate? ;)

Edited with new whois info. Note: this info was originally different, and was posted to promote thought before blind purchase since the site came out of essentially nowhere. The site has been verified as valid, and the domain info has been updated.

Damagi: nice first post...

WTF???

Posted by: stevel

.coom? Is that one of those new TLDs?

I know that 9thTee also can serve as a distributor, so perhaps pvrspeed.com is getting TurboNET that way. I do know that this site has taken some grief in alt.ptv.tivo for its unfriendliness to Netscape. It is new, so I don't think you'll see folks with experience dealing with them yet. I have to assume that they're at least somewhat better than the illiterates who are selling $2 Fresnel lenses for $13.

That domain record scares the crap out of me. If they're not using a real street address and a hotmail address - how would you track them down if something went wrong? Looks a bit like a scam.

Posted by: Rob Helmerichs

All I know is, on Friday, UPS failed to deliver my first TurboNet card from 9th Tee. Friday night, I ordered my second through PVRspeed. Today, UPS informed me it would be another day. The PVRspeed one arrived in the mail today.

Now, I have nothing whatsoever against 9th Tee. Mark seems like a very nice fellow, friendly and helpful. But they use UPS, and I HATE HATE HATE UPS. For that, PVRspeed has my gratitude...and they would have my future business, if they sold anything beisdes TiVo network cards (which I hopefully won't be needing any time soon!).

my question is:
Are they a "Jafa Approved Vendor"?

...or is it Jafa himself?

I don't have legit info in my Domain registrations, too many spammers scour the databases, and too many jackasses post whois lookups if you say something they don't agree with (I'm not referring to the post above).

If I'm checking on a company, I'll look to their web site for seemingly valid data.

I get tons of mail.. To the address I had on my domain records 5 years ago. I have not gotten a single junk mail to my currently registered address, yet the mail to the old address (My parent's house) still flows in to this day.

Posted by: jmoak

Does anyone have any idea who these guys are? Is this a jafa ripoff or are they legit? Are these the same boards that jafa was/is selling? Is this being done with jafa's blessing/support?

The lack of info on the site makes me wonder.

Medieval Guy,
Do you have any idea who these guys are? Is the board you received the same as the ones origionally sold by jafa?

I'm not trying to be nasty, just careful. I need another turbonet in the next month or two....

No and yes. I got the impression (although it's just a feeling) that it was jafa. The board I got from PVRspeed was identical, down to the zip-lock static-free bag, to the one I got from 9th Tee.

Posted by: cwingert

Where did the package come from? One thing that concerned me is the lack of a physical address on the web site.

The other thing that bothers me is the lack of the person coming forward. At least tracer is very vocal here.

...no physical address, no phone number, no names, no info....

all adds up to "no warm and fuzzy"......

although Medieval Guy received his goods, it still makes me uneasy.

(thanks for the info, Medieval Guy!)

Could be Medieval Guy == pvrspeed.com (he seems to be the only one that can step up to the plate for pvrspeed.com) and it is a scam. No offense Medieval Guy, just a theory. :)

Posted by: Rob Helmerichs

It's not me! All I know, FWIW, is that I ordered one from 9th Tee and got screwed by UPS; I ordered another from PVRspeed and got spectacular service. It's never a good idea to generalize from one piece of anecdotal evidence (said the professionally-trained historian), but my piece of anecdotal evidence is quite good.

On the other hand, if you don't have a problem with UPS, 9th Tee is great, too...I just refuse to do business with people who ship UPS after my last round of bad experiences. (They screwed up my 9th Tee delivery not once, but twice.)

Medieval Guy has brought this thread to my attention, I would to like confirm anyone's doubt in PVRSpeed.com,

The reason the domain information was incorrect, when we were looking for the domain name we wanted to use a bulk register feature to get 10 different names to chose from. So we set all of the info with junk for the time being. As you can check we have updated for PVRSpeed's mail box. (Whois info) Just for the phone name, The phone system is not setup yet. this will change in the next few days.

Jafa and I, have come to arrangement. Much like 9thee has.

Known errors with web browsers in are HTML coding: some versions of Netscape are not working.
We are working on this problem now. Sorry if we have inconvenience anyone.

And there is no Questions as to our speedy shipping. Sameday, if order before 4:30pm EST.
So fell Confident ordering from us. We're not a scam, by no means.
Hope to hear from anyone with suggestions or questions, About PVRSpeed.com

Thanks
PVRSpeed

OK Medieval Guy we know its you.

J/K.

Suggestions :
Add a physical address and phone number to the web page under contact information. Even if you don't have the phone yet, the information that there is some intent to have a phone number would make wary shoppers a bit less so. An e-mail address would be nice too.

You also might to start taking CCs directly. I know there is an expense to this. However, someone like me paying through PayPal with no recommendations on the seller gives me the heeebe geeebies (sp?). I only use PayPal on eBay when the seller has > 500 comments and less than 1% negative.

If you must use PayPal, they why don't you setup dutch auctions on ebay (you only seem to have one product). This, at least, gives the user a method of getting/giving feedback on you.

Good Luck.

With this new website in the beginning was not time to have the merchant account set in place. As the home page indicates we are working on finding a good processer to process cards. I totally understand people have concerns when shopping on-line. It takes time to establish trust. I have placed the address in the contact info, as you suggested. As for E-mail address there has all been the sales@pvrspeed.com and one for RMA on the Contact Us page. So I'm not sure what you mean by "An e-mail address would be nice too".

Thanks again for the suggestion.

I'll have to concur with MG, I order a TurboNet on Friday from PVRSpeed.com and got it today. Came with a nice burned CD too. Two Tivos on the net now.

My browser can't find www.pvrspeed.com . Is it something on my end or have they closed up shop?

Posted by: DaveLessnau

Could someone (anyone) please click on that link, above, and let me know if it works for them? Still nothing here.

Posted by: stevel

Seems to be off the air. The domain contact is:

Stan fonder
Pvrspeed PMB 319 - 9438 US HWy 19 N.
Port Rickey, FL 34668
US

No valid phone number is given. I'm pretty sure the address is a mail-drop. The hosting service is Phat Media (www.phat-media.com), but I can't reach their site either.

nuthin for me.

You know this is strange, they were giving free COD, which I opted for when I purchased (pretty hard to be scammed through COD, as well as a faster means of transaction for the purchaser).

The thing arrived sooner than I even expected it to and I paid exactly 69.25 on the spot in cash. Not a bad deal, I would like further business with them but what happened to the site? Not that I don't like 9th tee, but I generaly hate credit card transactions. PVRSpeed didn't appear to be a scam at all to me...especialy with the free COD and all.

Posted by: Rob Helmerichs

They seem to be back...

Posted by: Pfloyd

Back for me too

Posted by: Francesco

Anybody heard from them in a while? My "customer support" inquiries go unanswered, and it's a 60-mile drive to my package drop to see if they've sent a replacement for an RMA item...

Posted by: Francesco

Hmmm... Now his e-mails are bouncing.

Guess I'm out $70 plus return postage. Bummer.

I should have stayed loyal to Mark at 9th Tee....

Posted by: Fleegle

I got to the site, and found his software listings. Has anyone ever tried the Caller-ID program he has listed? I would SO love to have that on my DTiVo!
