TurboNet, 3.0, daily call

I've just popped my TurboNet card in and used the latest TurboNet ISO to install the telnetd, ftpd, etc. Now, my question is, how do I make the TiVo do the daily calls over the TurboNet card and not the modem? I've tried several test calls and they all go over the modem (with different types of reboots between test calls). I can telnet and ftp to the box just fine, and i've got ,#401 setup as my dialing prefix.

I do have a DHCP server running for my LAN, but the TurboNet install script asked for an IP, so I gave it one. I've since commented out the insmod line, and the ifconfig and route lines to see if it'd grab an IP with DHCP. I've rebooted it a couple times with this rc.sysinit and it doesn't grab an IP on its own.

Does anybody have any ideas? I'm stumped.

Turbonet install script may have buggered up stuff for 3.0.

With 3.0 pop in the Turbonet, power on while a dhcp server is running, change your prefix to ,#401 and you are done.

You shouldn't have used the TurboNet install script.

Restore from backup, then don't use the install script.

There's no way to fix this without restoring from backup? Bummer. I'd really rather not have to go through that.

Hi,

The install script should have made a backup of your rc.sysinit file before it edited it - you can try copying the backup over the modified rc.sysinit file.

Have a look in the /etc/rc.d directory.

Also make 100% that it is flagged as executable.

Well, there may be a way to do it, but the Turbonet install script is not built for 3.0. You're probably among the first to try it.

I'd say that it doesn't work. So don't do it. ;)

And BTW, this is why you *always* make a backup. Because you never know.

That was actually the first thing I tried after reading about how 3.0 automagically finds the card (I really just commented out the lines that were appended to the end). This stopped the ethernet card from working altogether, there was no request for an IP from my DHCP server either.

I also noticed that the module is compiled for a wrong kernel version, perhaps thats why TiVo doesn't load the module by itself?

I'll play around some tonight and see if I can come up with a working install script for a 3.0 TiVo... I thought it seemed a little too easy last night ;)

Well, it was the right module until you replaced it with the wrong one by running the install script. ;)

You can probably force it to load with -f. Maybe. Dunno. I'd get back to a backup, then get 3.0 fresh again, then write the script to install the stuff you want like telnet, ftpd, and so on without actually doing any of the turbonet installation stuff.

Yep, the install script does add the insmod line with the -f option.

It looks like a bad driver is probably the culprit here.

Here's the only spot that could actually do some damage if it replaces the wrong binaries:
code:
cp ax88796.o /mnt/tivo$i/lib/modules cp ax88796_debug.o /mnt/tivo$i/lib/modules

Does anybody happen to have 3.0 that could pack up the stock ax88796.o module and send it my way? I'd rather look at this step by step to make sure I know what I actually did wrong rather than wiping and starting over and hoping to get it right the second time.

If anybody is so inclined, could you please mail the file to chris-tivo@d0rk.org ?

Thanks a lot.

I've searched the site, but came up empty. How can I get FTPD going on my TiVo after the upgrade to 3.0?

Once I get FTP access, I'm in a lot more familiar ground vs. Bash.

Many thanks,

-Dave

I am having the same basic problem with my TivoNet card. It was working fine until tivo 3.0 came out. I just re-installed the script file. When that didn't work was when I read about ",#401" but it is too late. Everything works except the daily call. I did revert back to the saved script. But now the card is not active. It is not getting a DHCP address from my server.

I really don't want to restore from the Pre-Hack backup and possibly loose all my recorded shows. Does anybody know how to get around this?
