Is anyone else having problems with Hughes tivo units? My was returned because of a design flaw and they don't know when I'll get it back due to a heavy back log. I'm fed up with Hughes and have been getting the run around. Two Hughes tecs at their help center told me of the flaw.

Design flaw? Can you be more specific?

I have a Hughes DirecTiVo myself, and have no problems with it. Just curious what was wrong with yours....

A friend of mine looked into getting a Hughes TIVO, but since the special pricing is for 'New Hughes Customers', she couldn't. She even asked how long she would have to 'cancel' her service for before she was considered a 'new customer'. She was told 'Once a customer you are never a 'new customer'.

Hughes is stating to their older customers screw you. Well she ended up getting a TIVO 2. She will be canceling her Hughes service permanently.

The hard drive locks up and won't reset. The techs finally admitted it to me. It has to do with the tivo software and the harddrive. Be happy your unit works for now. See linkhttp://electronics.cnet.com/electronics/0-6342371-1318-8242755.html?tag=uo-thanks

Are you sure the restrictions don't apply to DirecTV service, not the Hughes box? Never heard of manufacturer-specific restrictions such as you describe.

In any event, I agree this is a crappy way to treat old, faithful customers like us but I guess DTV values a fast buck above everything else.
