TurboNet success! (and a question)

Well, just got done installing a TurboNet in my DTivo, and everything seems to have worked like a charm.
I was hoping to be able to run the patch cable through one of the holes in the DTivo (a Hughes), but there's some black sticky sheet of something blocking most of them. Even if it weren't, there's not enough clearance between the holes and the MB to fit a RJ45 end.
Since I bought the "kit" from 9th Tee, and they suggest running it through one of these holes as well, I assume I have to chop an end, run the bare cable through, and re-end it? Or is there something I'm missing?
Now I have to decide whether to run CAT5 to my living room or bridge my wireless LAN with a WAP11 or something... choices choices :)

Sony SAT-T60 is the same way. I chopped the end of the cable, punched a hole through the black stuff, pushed the cable through and re-terminated it. Fortunately, I have all the tools to do that. It's working great.
