Scart leads from CPC
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I recently ordered 5 scart leads from CPC and stated I required them fully screened, when they arrived the the scart plugs seem to be gold plated, but I was not convinced that the connections were fully screened as requested, on removing the scart cover I find that the connecting wires are in fact un-screened and the only screening is a metal foil enclosing the 21 wires, I would be intersted if any one else has noticed this, and if there is such a item as a 21 pin scart lead with fully scrrened connecting wires.

What is the exact part number?
I have two different scart cables from CPC which I am very happy with. But I have no way of examining the internals without physically cutting them, as the plugs are moulded on.

Well I seem to remember that I got the part numbers from the forum page, and it might have been you who posted the part numbers.
Regarding having moulded it is probally a good idea for strength, but of course it keeps out the prying eyes !
if mine had been moulded I would have tried to get inside someway to confirm that they were better than the ones I normally purchase at a £1 each, these are the ones I am using at the moment, but like all hi-fi and computer addicts I am always looking for any inprovement so will try the new ones to see if I can notice any inprovement in picture quality.

To use SCART cables, must you have SCART connections on BOTH ends, thus requiring the unit, say, a DVD or a VCR to have SCART outlets too? I have a Sony Vega 36" TV and I don't recall seeing any SCART outlets on any of my equipment that could feed into the SCART openings on the rear of the TV. I was hoping you would say that you have SCART connecters on the TV end and composite connecters on the other and can be bought at Radio Shack. (g)

You can have any combination of connections you like, go to any half decent tv/audio shop or the likes of Maplin and you'll see a selection of what's available, scart only carries rgb/s-video, composite video and audio in a handy format, it's nothing clever.
Surprised you haven't got scart on your equipment, only things I know of that haven't over hear are those dvd/amp combis, if you have one of them you just need a lead that goes from s-video and audio phonos to scart, fairly common from my experience.

Yes I have the Sony DAVS300 DVD 5.1 AMP and indeed this has phonos and S-VIdeo output. Just bought an SVideo to Scart lead to feed Port 2 (SVIDEO) on my Sony WEGA - bought it from CPC £7 or sommat..

You can go from SVideo to Scart in a lead but not the other way around for that you need a RGB to SVideo convertor also available from Maplins

Not strictly true - SCART is just the type of cable, not the signal format (SCART can carry SVideo, Composite, RGB and audio). You can get a SCART to Svideo (mini-din) cable and it will transmit the SVideo signal to/from the SVideo pin on the SCART plug, it will work in either direction. However, your device on the SCART end of the lead must support SVideo over SCART, not all do. If you want to use RGB output from a device (e.g. Tivo) into an SVideo only connector (the little mini-din plug) then yes you will need the maplins convertor, because in this case you are changing signal format (RGB to Svideo) not just plug shape, as in the first case.

My original thread seems to have gone adrift. my query was is it possible to purchase fully screened Scart leads, as I recently requested fully scart cables from CPC, and found that although the pins appear to be Gold plated the only screening was by a metal foil covering the 20 odd wires.
at the moment I am using a Sony 36" tv with three scart connectors, and all are in use, ie Tivo, DVD, and analogue Sat receiver, as the results are first class perhaps it's not worth the trouble changing to the CPC scart leads if they are not totally fully screened ie each individial wire.

Sorry, I feel a further drift coming on! You say you use all three of the sockets. Only one is RGB, are you happy using Composite on the other two?
I'd have thought you could have daisy chained them all into the RGB Socket?

He's probably using s-video for dvd and most analogue sat receivers are composite only anyway.
I prefer s-video to rgb for dvd with my combination of equipment.
