Sat T60 died--need help repairing

My Sat T60 recently died (I believe it is hard drive related) and Sony wants almost $200 to fix it. I never thought I would be able to replave the drive myself but after doing a little research it seems possible. I came across the following thread:
http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-v...hard+drive+fail
Is this still the best way to fix my poor Tivo? What is the current recommended drive to replace mine with? My unit is a 2 drive unit if that makes a difference. I had planned on replacing both of them unless someone knows an easy way to determine which one is bad.
Thanks!

Your best bet is to probably start from scratch and replace both drives. You can replace them with either one new drive or two. You could theoretically use one of the drives (the good one) as a B drive, but it might be safer to just put the two drives aside. You can possibly isolate the bad drive by downloading Powermax from Maxtor's web site and using it to test both drives.
If you are able to get a backup of your drives (see the Hinsdale guide for instructions), then you can restore that to your new drives and be off to the races.
If your drives are dead and you cannot get a working backup from them, then you will either have to find a source for an image by asking around in this forum, or by purchasing replacement drives from one of the several places that sell them (visit us here or see the Hinsdale guide for additional vendors).
The Sony is a bit trickier than the other DirecTiVos to upgrade because of a single screw that is a nuisance to get out. You can search around the forum for advice on how to get it out. Otherwise, there are people around (see above) who will do the install for you or send you a kit complete with a plug-and-play drive (no PC required) and, in most cases, the tool(s) required to open the TiVo and get rid of the screw.
Good luck!

Thanks for the info. Hopefully I'll get to try it this weekend. I've been without Tivo for far too long.
