I just ordered a Serries 2 unit, and I'm anxiously awaiting it's arival.
I have a network of *NIX based machines in my house that is conected via an OpenBSD firewall to a cablemodem.
Can I set the TiVo up to get it's schedule updates via this net connection? If so how do I go about this?
Can I add the TiVo to the network, so that I can access teh saved programs ftp perhaps?
Will I be able to telnet/ssh to the Tivo?

You'll have to wait for 3.0, which might be awhile. Then you'd just need to get a USB -> ethernet adapter, then put ,#401 as your dial prefix. Then it will grap an IP via DHCP and do updates over the etehrnet connection.
Everything else is currently not possible on a Series2.

Wahts 3.0 ? The version of TiVo software?
Is it liekley o be on the machine I get? I just ordered it this week. How can I tell?
If it's not, how can I go about upgrading?
Once I get it, how do I need to configure my DHCP server. can I assign it a "real" IP, and what other otions do I need to supply it (Gateway, DNS Server ???).
Once all this is done, will the TiVo Be able to update it's schedule data via the internet conection? What ports will it need open on the firewall?
Will I be able to access the Tivo over the network, and log in to it using telnet/SSH?
Thansk for the help.
