No Program Guide!!!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: digital_S

Hi ppl,

There probably is a thread on this subject somewhere.

Anyway, I've recently subscribed to TiVo and still haven't received the program guide, therefore I can't set any recordings. :(

How long does it take?

My TiVo keeps making the daily phone call, but doesn't receive the program guide.

On the service message, it says:- "If you have already activated, thank you. Your TiVo service account will be updated within a few days."
I have activated and it's been a few days.

I will phone the help line if necessary, but if anyone can help, I'd be most grateful.

Thanks.

Its normally about 48 hrs so if its been a lot more than that give them a call

Posted by: the_hut

Definately give them a call ASAP.

In my case it took over a week (and a large number of calls), although I think I was particularly unlucky.

Posted by: digital_S

I did call them, the nice scottish man said the he would send a signal to my TiVo, and he said wait for the next scheduled phone call. (Which is in 10 mins) Strange!!! :-S

He said after that time, to wait 24 hours for my TiVo to update, and call back tomorrow if it hasn't.

That means 24 whole hours without recording :(

How long had you had TiVo running - before calling to activate it?

It should last a while to allow for the activiation delay!

Posted by: digital_S

I had my TiVO running for a few hours each day, only for about 3 or 4 days before I decided to activate it. How long is the activation delay?

Oh, I still haven't got the program guide, After a few calls to customer services, with 1 call to correct my TiVo service number, (that was the problem), but I still don't have the guide!! Plus I keep doing the daily call, and still nothing. D'oh. That probably means calling customer services again. I'll wait to see what todays daily call does, (at 3:20pm), then call them. I'm missing loads now! :(

What's with all this "No Program Guide" stuff? You can't mean the EPG, 'cos I've had mine since day one. Even BEFORE subs activation. As soon as you complete Guided Setup, Tivo downloads EPG data for whatever channels you have requested. What am I missing?

Are your sure you have actually select the individual channels from the customise channels list?

Posted by: digital_S

Yes, the EPG, that is the Program Guide!!

Everything is selected, all I'm misssing is the EPG, to select what to record.
You have to subscribe before it can download it though!

Posted by: ozsat

Although you have no programme data - what channel names are displayed on left-hand side of the screen when you press Live TV?

Posted by: woody

a new unregisterd unit would download at least the program data for the next two weeks. If you left registering your tivo until the grace period was up (usually 5 days I think), you should still have over a weeks data from which to record, this would allow time for the account subscription to be activated.

Posted by: digital_S

I only have 4 terrestrial channels, at the moment, :( so just BBC1+2, ITV1 and CH4.

Posted by: digital_S

I never had any data in the first place. This is partly because the service number was wrong, but since I corrected that, the data won't download with the daily phone call.

Posted by: ozsat

At what time (and which day) did you get your TiVo activated.

In reality - nearly every takes 48 hours to process before you see it.

So if you called on Thursday evening - then don't expect it to work until tonight.

But if you called before Thursday and its not working - then I'd call CS again.

Posted by: digital_S

I activated my TiVo on Monday 13th, about early afternoon! Still nothing, even after todays download.

Posted by: ozsat

When you activated your TiVo - where did you located the TiVo serial number from?

Posted by: digital_S

If you mean the TiVo service number, From the back of the player, and in the system information menu!!

Posted by: ozsat

I guess there is a problem then - over 72 hours and there is a problem!

Sometimes CS may take the number down wrong - worth checking.

Posted by: woody

Have you tried using the TEST CALL option, from the Phone Connection menu ,and checking that Tivo can actually connect. If this is OK, then I would phone CS and getthem to confirm your service number, which you should read from the screen.

Posted by: digital_S

Yes, tried practically everything. Fingers crossed now, I kept phoning CS, I must've spoken to nearly all of them!

In the end, I did a system reset, and set it up again. Shame I now have to wait 4-6 hours. :( This better work.

Thanks to you all for helping :D

Posted by: ozsat

If it is taking 4-6 hours then the programme data has to be there!

What does the full text on the bottom line of the live tv option say?

A part of it says something live press ENTER

Posted by: digital_S

No, doesn't say anything live.
The bottom line of the live tv says: TiVo service suspended. Although the message includes a bit that mentions if I've already registered, etc...

This is getting sooo annoying now

Have to wait even longer, just till customer services opens in the morning!
Don't know what they can do tho. I've done everything possible! Restart, reset, setup, daily calls, test phone connection.

Posted by: ozsat

No - on the live tv screen - where it lists the channels on the left - and it should list the programmes on the right.

There is a blue banner at the top.

What does it say at the bottom of the box on the screen?

Posted by: digital_S

Sorry, on the live tv screen its just got the banner at the top, saying service suspended, although it hasn't!

Anyway, after a few calls to CS, it turns out that the modem is faulty, otherwise I would have the program guide by now.
It probably isn't worth getting a new modem!

I'm going to return it, and get a new TiVo.
Does any1 has any suggestions on which model TiVo and where to puchace 1 from? What about Sony? (As I have a Sony TV)

Posted by: mrtickle

There's only 1 UK TiVo available - the Thomson one the same as the one you have. Sorry to hear of your bad luck but stick with it, hopefully the replacement will be ok!

Posted by: digital_S

Thanks mrtickle, I appreciate that ;)
I just can't believe I'm going through this mess.
Hopefully I get my new TiVo asap - I'm missing so much.

Posted by: woody

If you have a faulty modem, then how did your tivo work, when you tried the test connection.

Posted by: digital_S

i have no idea, yes the connection does work, but not properly, otherwise I would have the program guide by now!

Posted by: digital_S

HI again, Just to say my program guide was downloaded this morning :D

It's a mystery to me, going from a faulty modem, to the program guide being downloaded. Oh well.

Just 1 thing, I now can't change channels - - I'll try a reboot, should sort things out. Any1 else had that problem, how did u sort it?

Posted by: ozsat

To change channel by keying numbers - you must NOT be in the mode that has the programmes displayed - you have to select the programme you wish to watch.

If the screen is blank then you change channel by typeing in the channel number.

You must have selected the channels you receive by ticking them in "customised channels".

You must have correctly setup your IR blaster during the Guided Setup.
