TurboNet card - Get program data via the modem?
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I've upgraded my TiVo w/a TurboNet card and configured it. I'm having problems w/my gateway on my local network, so in the meantime I'd like to switch the TiVo temporarily back to retrieving the program data via the modem instead. Is there an easy way to do this?
Thanks,

Hi,
If you still want to keep the tivo on your network then you will need to edit the startup stript /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit
The revelant lines are at the end...
Add 'devicename=eth1' (without the quotes) to the insmod ax88796 line and change the ifconfig eth0 to ifconfig eth1.
The tivo will only attempt to use eth0 for the daily call so this change will allow the TurboNet card to operate yet still use the modem for the daily call.

I'm having a similar problem. Running 2.5.1, I installed turbonet last week, and haven't had a succesful call through the modem since (the modem previously worked...)
I don't have the tivo hooked up to my router yet (still running the cable through the wall), so I don't know if broadband updates will work or not.
I didn't realize that the turbonet installcd script disabled the modem dialup. I assumed that I'd have to setup something else to get broadband updates.
If I make the change suggested above (eth1 for eth0) will I still be able to ping/telnet/ftp to my tivo? And will this re-enable my modem for dialups?
thanks for all the help!

Yes, yes, yes. With any software version previous to 3.0, all you have to do is name the device anything other than eth0. It'll still work, just as a different device, and the daily call looks for eth0, otherwise it uses the modem.

Thanks, Otto.
I decided it was easier to finish running the cable rather than changing the init script. Once the Tivo was hooked to the router, the daily call went fine.
Of course, it immediately downloaded 3.0. So I simply set the dialing prefix to ,#401 and it still works.
