Menu slowdown after upgrade

I successfully upgraded my Philips DirecTivo by adding a 120GB Maxtor 5400 RPM drive 2 weeks ago. Everything went smoothly. Thanks to all for making this fairly straightforward.
I have read where some people have had their Tivo's slow down after their upgrade. This happened to me. e.g. On the "Now Playing" menu, if I select a show, it used to take 1-2 seconds before showing me the details. Now it can take 5, 10 or even 30 or more seconds before showing me the details. It's a minor nuisance I'm willing to put up with for the extra space, but I was wondering if anybody has solved this. I've seen other people recommend upgrading the memory, but I've seen no success stories as far as correcting this problem. Thanks for any help.

Memory upgrade is not an option for DirecTiVo.

Well, that rules out that solution for DirecTivo owners. But my question still stands. Has anybody actually solved this problem?
One thing I have noticed is occasionally it will respond as it used too. I haven't found any pattern for when this happens though. Most of the time it takes 5 seconds. But when it gets to 30 is when it's frustrating.
It seems this doesn't happen to everybody so I would be interested to know about those it has happened to. Maybe more information would shed some light on what is going on.

If it's busy indexing or performing other system maintenance functions, that may explain the occasional slow response.

Try doing a complete re-index and system clear under the System Reset menu. You'll lose your SP's and recordings, but it's supposed to help from what I've read on this forum.

Well, I don't think it is busy indexing or doing system maintenance because I don't get an occasional slow response. I almost *always* get a slow response since the upgrade. As I said I do occasionally get the pre-upgrade behavior of a fairly quick response, but that is not the norm. I wouldn't think the box would be indexing and system maintenance 24 hours a day every day.
As far as the System Reset, maybe I'll give that a shot when I'm in the position to lose my recordings (which probably won't ever happen). If this is the fix, I hope Tivo can write some software to do this in the background without losing any settings.

I have a Series II which of course has additional memory and a faster processor than the Series I machines. After upgrading ( addition of 80 GB ) I have noticed a slowdown in the Now Playing menu, although not nearly as slow as what you are describing. It now takes a few seconds, where it used to be instantaneous.

My unit was slower in responding once I upgraded. You'll find that your slowest response is usually when your "Now Playing" list is completely full and you're recording two things at once while trying to navigate the menu system. The delays, for me at least, have been random. While I'd like it to be "instant" I happily live with the delay in exchange for the extra recording space. For me, the space is more important.
