I've amended my rc.sysinit script on Windows (to autoload Tivoweb) and forgot to do the proper ASCII conversion when I FTP'd it back to my TiVo. Now my TiVO FTP server has crashed and I can't upload a correct one.
I STILL HAVE A BASH PROMPT CONNECTION SINCE I HAVE NOT REBOOTED!
I don't want to reboot as I'm sure my TiVo won't then load correctly (if at all)
How can I edit and fix the existing rc.sysinit file, or kill the FTP Daemon. I can't seem to find any commands that will let me edit the file, or list processes which I can then kill and restart.
Any suggestions, help, or other ideas greatfully received
I'm in a bit of a mess!
Cheers

code:
killall -HUP ftpd
change ftpd for whatever the name of the ftp daemon is. (tftpd?)

...and I thought I was the only one to make this mistake....
If by chance you do this, and reboot your tivo like I did, It will not BOOT! I got no video signal at all. The fix was to pull the drives out, and mount them in my PC. I then mounted up the filesystem, and fixed the bad rc.sysinit.
Make a backup of your rc.sysinit file if you are going to modify it.
Good Luck,

Another thing to watch out for is that you may lose the permissions on the file, too, and rc.sysinit won't be executable. Not good. Be sure to always set the file to be executable (chmod 711 /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit) after transferring it with ftp/zmodem.

Quick question...
I'm running DTivo v2.5 with TurboNet. TurboNet works great with 1.94 beta3. I'm trying to get the TivoWeb Console to start automatically with the Tivo startup. I know the command is:
OPERATION
For regular operation put "/var/hack/tivoweb-tcl/tivoweb" (with the correct
directory) at the end of the startup script (/etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit).
I'm running Win2k to connect to the TivoWeb.
My question is, what do I use to edit the rc.sysinit file? I opened it with NotePad and it didn't look right, so I didn't want to edit it with notepad then have it crash. Thanks!
