Upgrade or Repair at TiVo Service Center?

[COLOR=blue]At what point in time during the warranty period (from 0-12 months) is it more beneficial to risk upgrading the hard drive if it is suspected to be broken (can't tell for sure unless I break the seal) or to send the unit in under warranty to a service center? I've had mine only 5-6 months and I am stuck on "Welcome...powering up...". It loops there and before cycling power, I hear this soft "ting-ding-a-ding-a-ding" sound. It's a Hughes receiver w/TiVo. Any suggestions?

Also, where can I find a TiVo service center directory? I called the toll-free number and then called the places they gave me, but those were DirecTV units only, not TiVo service centers. :I

As far I as know, you have to return the unit to TiVo for replacement. I've never heard of an authorized service center.

You're past the 90 day free replacement warante, so it's gonna cost (I think $99, but I'm not sure). You can get an 80GB drive for less than that. I'd try to find a backup image if you don't have one (I have one for a Philips HDR312) and try putting in a new drive. If that doesn't work, then investigate sending it in.
