Guess it wasn't a bad drive. Or was it???

After simply unplugging my Phillips DSR600R combo (version 2.5) to move it to a new location in the house, I found myself in perpetual "Welcome. Powering Up..." mode. Did the reset thing several times - nothing.

I searched the forum, and the Hinsdale article and purchased a Maxtor 40gig ATA100. Performed the described procedure, and still nothing but "Welcome. Powering Up..." with the new drive.

I've confirmed jumper settings, used the mfstool v1.1 for restore, everything by the book. Even swapped cables.

So I'm wondering. If the original drive really was bad, can I expect a backup from mfstool to be valid ? And if not, what kind sole would be willing to undertake the sending of a good image?

Some feedback would be greatly appreciated here.

Thanks

My thought that if the drive is bad I woudln't trust the backup image.

Sorry, but I have a backup for a Phillips rather than Sony.
