Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum, but have read many, many, posts and have found them invaluable -- thanks!!
I need help from you Tivo upgrade experts in deciding how to go about upgrading my sony svr2000 refurbished unit. When I first bought it from Crutchfield.com about a year ago, it worked for 4 months and then the hard drive crashed and I sent it back to sony and the put in a new drive (I didn't know about tivo hacking at the time!).
Well the drive has been working great for the past 7 months, but lately I have notice a few glitches in some recordings where the screen will go blank or flicker. This happens very seldom, but it worries me considering what happened with my first drive (although there where different symptoms with that one).
Well here is the question -- please help!! -- I bought a the Maxtor 80gb hard drive in the Staples deal and I was about to follow Hindsdale's fantastic directions.... But ... now I am thinking that since my current A drive is showing at least the beginning signs of some glitches, should I instead install the 80gb drive as my Tivo's main drive and maybe purchase the Fry's/Outpost 120gb drive or some other drive later to use for my tivos second (B) drive????
Should I be concerned with minor glitches that I am very sporadically experiencing with my current Tivo's A drive???
I need your help!!
Thanks in advance!

First thing I would do personally is get a backup of what you have.....then you have your option.
I had previously upgraded my Philips SA by adding an 80g B drive, but also just bought one of the Staples 80's (being delivered in about an hour) and will be replacing my 30g A drive with the new drive.
I believe you don't lose recordings if you are adding a B drive, so if you think that would be a draw back to upgrading the A drive at a later date, go ahead and upgrade the A drive, otherwise, press with adding it as a B drive.
Bad thing about adding space.....you'll want more before long. :D
