Development access to the MFS database

Hello all -
I'm a recent TiVo convert and new to the forums (so be gentle...)
Before I ask my questions, let me be completely upfront that I have
three strikes against me already: I don't know TCL, I don't know
squat about the MFS database, and I don't know Linux (beyond
gutter basics).
So keeping in mind those caveats about my utter ignorance, I've
come seeking answers, because I'm intrigued by the TiVoWeb
project (and I am familiar with web and app servers). So...
How do the TiVoWeb TCL scripts actually interact with the MFS
database (for example, in the Windows ASP world, an ASP page
might interact with a database via ODBC - what's the equivalent
with the TCL -> MFS relationship)? Is MFS just treated like a
large flat-file DB or is there something more? (as I suspect)
Is it possible to use other development tools like PHP or ASP
to write scripts that will interact with the MFS DB?
Again, I'm in the dark here, so I'm really just seeking info within
a context with which I'm already familiar.
Lastly, rest assured I'm not going to run off with a little dangerous
knowledge and start poking around my TiVo willy-nilly - the less I
know, the slower I go. So at the moment, I'm not moving at all...
One other thing - is there any good reference for the MFS out
there (overviews, "maps", etc, to the degree that it's been
deciphered). Did some searching in the forum, but haven't
found a whole lot.
Thanks in advance for any input!
Regards,
MagicPieGod
