HD / Upgrade issue

Ok, I'm a newbie, trying to upgrade my very first TiVO -- a Philips HDR212.
So i ordered the bracket from 9th tee, purchased a Maxtor 80gb 5400rpm drive, and get everything hooked up to my pc and prepare to make my virgin backup image (after testing the dialup first, of course)
So I create the boot disc, and get halfway through step 7, where it tells me to verify my disc sizes. My primary fat32, windows xp 40gb drive is only recognizing at 33.8 (an issue I noticed earlier in the week), and my TiVo A: drive is only recognizing at like 9gb (should be 20gb for a hdr212), and my new 80gb drive was only recognizing at 22gb or so.
So I determine i've got some type of bios limitation, so mess w/ the bios a bit, turning off/on the 'smart recognize', and finally update my Gigabyte 7dxc bios to the latest version. Still no go however, as my drives are all still showing up as the incorrect sizes.
So this is where I'm stuck. Do I proceed with the upgrade, even though it's showing my hard drives as smaller than the really are? I searched the forums, and FAQ, but couldn't seem to come up with a conclusive answer.
As for my pc...it looks like my bios is limiting me to 33.8 gb. I'm afraid i'm stuck w/ purchasing a new controller card to allow me to see my full 40gb, or if I ever want to upgrade to a larger drive.
So i guess that leaves me with two unanswered questions....do any of you PC / TiVo gurus out there have any advice? I'm anxious to get everything hooked up.
Thanks in advance!

I'll bet that the A drive was recognized as 9MB, not 9GB. If so, you have to "unlock" it as described in the how-to.
As for the "33.8GB", my guess is that you accidentally placed the drive jumper in the "cylinder limit" position. Check the jumper again very carefully.

Thanks for the tips...I fiddled with it a bit and was finally able to get the drives to recognize properly.
Good call on the 33.8 jumper settings. I must've looked at the install manual and used the 33.8/master limitation vs. the normal master jumper.
Anyhow, I was able to install everything successfully and am now the proud owner of a 100+ hour philips hdr212. The instructions were excellent and everything went smooth (with the exception of the HD issue, which I attribute to my pc)
Thanks again!
