Sucessfully upgraded from svr-2000 14 hours to 295 hours.
is 295 hours acceptable and why does people seem to get different results?
my unit reads subscription Account status: 5: Lifetime service.
This was an opened box and never subscribed, if I make the first call, what is going to happen to this subscription?

If your lucky it'll stay like that even after you make the first call but of course you'd probably have better odds at getting struck by lightning before that kind of luck passes you by.
Without doing the Daily call, you won't be able to get the program data so unless your just going to use it as an expensive DVR then you might as well hook up the phone line and begin service. No otherway to really get the potential of all the money you put into HD's, time and setup.

Agreed.
It is more likely than not that the Tivo Lifetime sub will disappear soon.
Pay your dues, start a sub, and help TiVo help us. ;)

Sounds like this is a 'hacked' box.
2 choices.
Leave it alone, and don't expect much of a welcome here, or any help at all, and possibly continue with theft of service.
Call in and find out what's really going on. You'll likely end up paying for the service, but being welcome here with questions, comments, and all your foibles.

How do you know it was never subscribed? Maybe it was a return and the subscription has been transferred to another unit, in which case it will revert to some other status as soon as it calls in. Maybe the modem's dead and that's why it was returned...no way to find out unless you let it dial in.

If you read the begining of my thread, I explained clearly as an open box for $99.00 and called Sony about the $99.00 rebate (this was about 6 months ago) and they allowed to sent in the rebate on the open box.
That said! I was just curious about the fact that the machine had Lifetime Sub on it, I am a newbie at this, and your kind of Bullish...don't you agree?
It was an Open Box! Ya HEar!

I bought an open box Sony from CC about a year ago. It showed 'lifetime' for about 20 days, then changed by itself and prompted me to get a subscription. I opted for the lifetime sub.
Just upgraded it last week, so I now have two 306hr Sony's. Both have two 120gb Maxtors. Maybe you're getting 295 hrs due to drive differences.
