Advice on hard drive acting up

My dual 120GB Tivo recently died. I ran diagnostics on the drives. One was dead, one had errors that Powermax (from Maxtor) was able to fix. I got another 120GB drive and installed it and the fixed drive- and all is well - OK pretty well.
At first, every day or every other day the machine would freeze, reboot and get stuck at "Welcome, powering up...". A quick toggle of the power and once again all was well.
It has been about a week since the last power cycle and I don't believe it has rebooted itself - at least the little TIvoman clip didn't show upon hitting the Tivo button, which I think it does after a power cycle.
After all that, the question is..... should I mess with it, take the drives out and retest them, or leave it alone?
Any thoughts on what would have changed to make it seemingly better?
Thx

I hope you figure it out because mine has been doing exactly the same Welcome-Powering Up deal for the past six or seven days. It acts perfectly fine while I'm using it even for hours. I turn off the television, come back and it's stuck at the Welcome-Powering Up screen (totally frozen until I unplug it and plug it back in), having recorded nothing since it tried to reboot. I'm trying to figure out if it has anything to do with its recent upgrade to 4.0. Ideas anyone?

Does it crash when it makes the phone call?
