Why don't you call Best Buy and find out from the source?

Posted by: Msnowdon

They are closed, that is why I posted the message!

although it is an appliance, Best Buy will probably treat it as a computer. I imagine the return policy will be 14 days.

Channel change is slow because TiVo is meant for you NOT to channel surf. IF you watch live TV, hit "Guide" on the remote for a program guide.

As for the picture, you might want to wait a day or two for the 3.0 upgrade. People have had nice things to say about it.

BB always has either a 14 or 30 or 90 day return on things, depending on the equipment. Check their web site. It's probably on there.

That is a good point. I had forgotten that the TiVo 2's came with 2.0. The upgrade will be a substantial upgrade for you. If you can, you should wait a few days. The upgrade should come in the next couple.

The channels change slow largely because TiVo has to "buffer' live t.v. for a second or two behind live t.v. in order to be constantly recording live tv so you can pause it, reply, etc. There are adjustments that can be made to the ir blaster settings that can make it faster.

I've heard the picture gets better with 3.0, which you should be receiving any day now.

Channel-surf? With a TIVO?

Nononononono!!! Tivo saves you from channel-surfing. Give it a couple of days to get used to what you like. From what I've heard, the picture also improves when you get the 3.0 software.

Trust me, channel-surfing will become a thing of the past. Whatever you want to watch will already be there.

I didn't notice much picture improvement, at least not enough to satisfy this guy. If he's that unhappy with it now he'd probably be better of taking it back.

Did you already pay for a lifetime subscription?

Posted by: stevel

Best Buy has a 30-day return policy for things such as a TiVo. I'd expect the return policy to be printed on the receipt.

My original Series 2 was from Best Buy and had a high pitch noise. 'Bust' Buy had none in stock to replace it so I ordered one on-line direct. I returned to the original one 3 weeks after my purchase and just after setting up the replacement from TiVo.

Their return policy is 30 days no questions asked. It's on the receipt. If you do have a lifetime you also have 30 days to switch it from TiVo's standpoint.

I don't think that he means that he has a defective unit and wants to switch it for a working one. I think that he actually tried TiVo and hates it

Make sure you use the RCA component out -- or SVideo from the cable box to the TiVO and from the TiVo to the TV. It makes a huge difference in the picture quality.

I thought my picture sucked too - but was using the RF cable with a splitter....
