Welcome TiVoShanan!

This is a dupe of a post from the Coffee House...just wanted to make sure you all met Shanan, as she's looking forward to hanging out in the TV Talk forum...
Hey Everyone -
I've already introduced you all to TiVoBill. Now I have another friend
to introduce. Her name is Shanan, and you'll find her posting as TiVoShanan.
Shanan is much, much cooler than I am. She's involved in a lot of
the special TV-related promotions and such (think Oscars) that you see
on our service and website. She also writes the subscriber newsletters.
In a former life she was an entertainment news columnist - so she knows
everything about anything related to the 'tube, loves hanging out with
the celebrities, and has an opinion or two about what makes for good
TV. Her home is the City. She's quite metropolitan. And she's really,
really sweet - you guys are gonna love her.
I think you'll find her hanging out quite a bit in the new Now
Playing--TV Show Talk forum. That's her specialty. But she'll be here
and there, letting you all know about some of the fun stuff we have
coming up at TiVo.
Straighten up. Don't slouch. And make sure you're on your best
behavior, 'cuz we have company. ;)
Say hi to Shanan!
Cheers,
Pony

Hi Shanon, it's alot cooler in here. Nobody complains in here :)

Welcome, Shanan! As you can see this is quite a lively forum you'll be spending time on: 18 minutes and not one "hello"?!?
Seriously, though, perhaps you can generate some interest in the tv forums with a nice controversial thread.
:)
Edit: by the time I hit "post" andyf had posted a hello -- still, 19 minutes and only a few posts. :o

I think she should start by dissing every SciFi show ever made.
I bet that would go over real good. :)
Posted by: jsmeeker
do I need to welcome her again?? :)
Shanan has great insight and always a witty comment or two to offer. You guys (and gals) will like her.
Posted by: TiVoShanan
Hello, hello! Many apologies for the delay in accepting this very warm welcome. I was having email issues. Anyway, I want to give you some background on me... and thanks, Andy, for warning me that this room is more fun! ;)
What does she do, you ask? (Some of this is verbatim from the Coffee House post.)
I'm not a TiVo technical genius like the revered RB and now infamous TiVoPony. Nor am I a Customer Support specialist like TiVoBill, but I often work closely with him since I interface with a LOT of our subscribers. And I'm not the TiVo guy, either; though talk about "kinda cute," huh? (Right, Jeff?)
Officially, my title at TiVo is "Entertainment Writer," a role that pulls me into nearly every dept. here at TiVo. I have the good fortune of doing a lot of the "fun" stuff, too--working on programs that involve big television events (i.e., the Oscars, the Super Bowl, the Emmys… and so on), interviewing our celebrity subscribers, editing the subscriber newsletter… you get the picture. But more than that, I am a resourceful gal who wants to make everyone happy and if I don't know an answer to a question already, I know how to track it down in a TiVo minute. Thanks to the newsletter, I get dozens and dozens of e-mails every week, which I either personally answer or funnel to the right person to make sure each issue is addressed. And that's why I feel so lucky to have been asked to get involved in the TiVo Community Forum: talk about being amongst good TiVo company! You guys know everything! I look forward to getting to know as many of you as possible. And yes, I plan to be at the Picnic where we can talk more about how I can be a useful addition to an already very capable group of TiVo folk participating in this incredible Forum... though I have a hunch I'll just love this room!
I'll spill the beans on my TV habits--or one of them--to start: I am a HUGE Buffy the Vampire Slayer (BtVS) fan. So slay me now if you must.
Thanks again, everyone. I'm very excited to be here. Yay!

Ohh another Slayette.... I remember your plug of the buffed one from Newsletter #9.
So will Willow ascend? Will Angel sink? And what did that guy do to Spike?... :D

Welcome, TiVoShanan!!! Another Slayer fan - cool! (Are you also an Angel fan, or are you like me and stay away from that half of the buffyverse?)
And are you also responsible for the TiVolution Magazine, or is that someone else at TiVo?
In any case, glad to have ya here!

And you call yourself a fan! :)
Cordelia is the one ascending, and she'll of course be the only one capable of saving Angel.
Spike got a soul. My wife says that's what he wanted all along, but I'm not so sure. Either way, that's what he got.

Hey, careful Arkham, spoilers! How do people do the spoiler tag? you know, where the text is the same color as the background until you select it? That should be added to this forum at least ;)
An afternoon drive radio show that I listen to has the Chicago Tribune TV critic on every Friday. He's funny, and has lots of contacts, so he has lots of info, and is pretty honest ("Fox is bringing 24 back next season...what are they thinking, I think that's such a mistake" is an example). I really enjoy his commentary, but now that I'm TiVo enabled, I have to tune away, 'cause they're talking about shows that were on last night, for goodness' sake! Who's got time to watch live tv???
I only just got to the Buffy season finale last week (I had to blow off work to do it) and OMG! The last 5 eps of buffy were some of the best TV ever.
There, that should be enough brown nosing of TiVoShanan! :D
Welcome, Shanan!

Okay, I'm basking in the Buffy love. Maybe we'll have to start some off-line Slayer's Circle activities! ;) (And JYoung, I'm impressed with your recollection of past Newsletters! Thanks!)
Grins, I have to also say that (and there are no spoilers here, though thanks, guys, for the tip on how to make them invisible when necessary!) the final few episodes of Buffy were AMAZING. The last three in particular. I haven't had a chance yet, but I'm looking forward to watching the last two episodes again (three hours) consecutively. Maybe a few times. heheheh. Really, some true Whedon-esque genius unfolded. Okay, okay, if I keep this Buffy blathering up, clearly this "Welcome Shanan" thread will have to end and I'll have to infiltrate the other rooms, huh? ;)
I DO enjoy plenty of other TV, just to be clear. Six Feet Under, Sex in the City (though this last season didn't entirely wow me), The Osbournes, to mention a few. And hey, I will also speak up now for the lost gems Grosse Point, Freaks & Geeks and Popular (HILARIOUS show. Boy, do I miss that one!). There's more... but I want to keep the Shanan mystery going for a while. hehehe
So, seriously, do you all have a vision for how you'd like me to participate in the TV Show Talk area? Let me know if you're looking for anything in particular. Otherwise, I see this as the "kick back and hang out" area--one of my favorite things to do--and obviously we have plenty of room on the couch! Always feel free to email me privately, too.
Personally, I also saw this area as a really easy way to introduce more newbie people into the Forum as well. Some of the sections can be overwhelming/intimidating for first-time visitors since so many folk here are hyper-TiVo intelligent from a technical and corporate perspective, too. TV Show Talk lays a basic foundation to which every TiVo subscriber can relate: the love of TV, and in particular the notion of having a favorite show and enjoying discussing/deconstructing it.
Anyway, I was thinking as I get more familiar with TiVo Community Forum, this would be a great "Beginner" area to start plugging to the "subscribers who just wanna have fun," if that makes any sense! And as I get to know you, even feature some of YOU in the newsletter (most of you saw that I've plugged the Forum before there), on the website, etc. to encourage more beginner participation by making it all the more personal, fun, and friendly--basically just reflecting who you already are! What do you guys think?

For those wondering, Shanan was also at CES this year. I had the pleasure of talking to her a bunch of times over the three days when she wasn't off with RB talking to those pesky "important people". She's very cool, and definately knows her TV.
That said, I was a little depressed by Buffy this year. I didn't think it was really "super great" compared to prior seasons. The last three episodes are all some of the best, but overall the season was a little more of wash for me then the years prior.
As for the rest of your plan - sounds great to me. I lurked on this forum for a long time before I gained enough knowledge to feel comfortable posting. I think it would be great to have a little area for new people to just mosey on in, take a seat at the bar, and become one of the gang.
Welcome to the club Shanan!

Shanan, how is your DirecTiVo Series 2 performing? :)
Posted by: arkham999
I've been a Buffy junky forever, but with the exception of the last couple of episodes and a few in the middle I didn't really like this year. The show has gotten really dark, which may appeal to some but not to me so much.
Spoiler:
Xander getting to save the day finally was really cool though. I hope he and Enya figure it out.

I concur. I was getting quite worried about my beloved Buffy... I was lamenting to a colleague here at TiVo about the mid-season depression I was experiencing, but I really do feel rejuvenated after those last three hours and I remain very hopeful for next season! :)

I've got to agree with this as well. About 2/3 of the way through the season, I turned to my fiancee and said, 'Jeez, is this season here just to see how freakin miserable they can make everybody?" It was such a huge downer. I get what Joss was going for, with 'life' being the Big Bad this season and all; I just don't think he pulled it off very well. With the last few episodes of the season and the musical episode (IMO, one of the most brilliant hours of TV ever), he just managed to pull the season out of the crapper.

How would one define a TiVo minute??? Is it two pushes of the 30-second-skip button?? Or is it a bunch of 8 second rewinds and a few pauses to get up and get a snack?
A TiVo minute could be any where frome 2 seconds to infinity. Tivo realy changes the meaning of TV time. I wonder what Einstein would think....
:)
Welcome and im glad to hear your a buffy fan. Bufy and Angle were 2/3rds of the reason I got a TiVo.

I liked it too, although I don't know if I would give it quite such a glowing review. It was a pretty cool change from the usual and much better than the Drew Cary attempts at it.

Sigh, I have only watched three Angel episodes. I've watched all Buffy episodes except a few in Season 6, the rest I've read episode transcripts of.
Someone want to PM me and tell me what's up lately in Angel? How did Angel lose that ring that made him invincible ("the Vampire holy grail")? I noticed he can't walk in sunlight anymore meaning he lost the ring...
Quick question: Where is the TiVo newsletter :)?

Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)
Willow's gonna become a villain =)! With all that power and a deep loathing against Giles constantly having commanded her over the years as is evident from the third episode of Season 6, she's really pissed. That came out in the last two episodes of the season, but I don't think that's going to be the end of it just yet. She's probably going to be tempted back... the dark magic was like a drug to her while she was influenced by it and she probably will want to go back to being incredibly happy and powerful again to try and correct what she feels are injustices. This is just speculation, but it could happen...
Angel, I don't know since I've missed all but a few episodes of the entire series =(. Spike I think is either going to be come human again or get his soul back. He's been yearning to be something that Buffy can accept for awhile, ever since Season 4. He's even made promises to protect Dawn before and taken some heavy hits in doing so (though she was a pretty good fighter herself in the Season 6 finale... I wonder if she's going to develop any superpowers, I mean she is this ball of energy and all... maybe Giles will find out how to tap into it?). Or, perhaps, Spike will become evil again... he has also been yearning to become a vampire again for awhile, and that may be, deep down inside, greater than his desire to be normal again.
What I'm curious on is in the episode Normal Again... does that mean the entire series is just in some psycho girl's mind? Could she have made up the venom to explain to herself her "waking up"? That episode really turned the entire series upside down for me... I can't figure out whether they meant it for real or if they truly did mean for it not to be read into too deeply and just be that she got stung with venom and thought the world she was used to wasn't real. Beats me, I've debated it for awhile and can't decide either way. Any time I get a good argument one way, there's a counter-argument that debunks it. Anyone have any thoughts? Did the creator say anything about this?
There, I used the Spoiler tag to protect the innocent :D! Welcome, Shanan!

Edit: whoops; make that airing July 2 instead of next Tuesday.

Quick, perhaps, but IMPORTANT, nonetheless!
If you're not getting the newsletter, you're not having nearly enough fun being a TiVo subscriber. heheheheh
Seriously, we must not have an updated e-mail for you, or perhaps you said way back upon activation that you only wanted absolutely urgent service-related communications...? C'est possible?
If you're interested, go to Manage My Account on tivo.com and make sure we have your updated info. And if you'd like, PM me and I'll send you the last edition of the newsletter so you know what you're missing. (Actually one should be coming tomorrow, so I can send ya that one.)
Thanks for asking!

The City? Let's be a little more specific here? :)
Certainly not Alviso, CA? Everyone knows Alviso, CA as "the City" ?
:)

Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)
Given CA, I'd guess San Francisco, but 'the City' is just so non-specific! And contradictory with Alviso, CA. :p
Posted by: jsmeeker
Well, if you live in the Bay Area, I would think "The City" would be San Francisco. And actually *in* the city. Like the urban area, not some suburban part of the city of San Francisco (if such a place exisits).
Just a wild guess.
