Showtime messes up Lara Croft: Tombraider

I was enjoying the Tombraider movie until those BIG banners for Showtime Freeview began showing up.
Showtime is a PREMIUM channel, and should NOT be superimposing banners on their movies.
They show them without commercials for a theater-like effect, then put a large banner across the screen in spots.

I'll be watching Hanibal tonight, guess there will be banners there too. I didn't know Tombraider was on this weekend, I have that set to record next weekend. At least there won't be any banners at that time.

I would complain to Showtime. It really isn't right that people who are paying customers have to endure the endless ads during the free weekends.
Demand that if they can't give you ad-free content, that you deserve to get that weekend free just like everyone else.

Nah, Tomb Raider was messed up already. Showtime just put a banner over part of the image. You should be grateful. (Yeah, I didn't like the movie at all).

I watched The Ladies Man (dear God I wish I hadn't!) and there were no banners.
Maybe they just put them over the movies they thought people would watch. :D
On another note, this free weekend really solidified for me that I just don't care about getting premium channels.
Until these folks start showing movies letterboxed, I have no desire to watch them. I tried watching MI:2 this weekend and felt claustrophobic. I shut it off after 15 minutes.
The exception, of course, is HBO and their original programming. But even then I'd only say that's worth about a month or two out of the year.

I sent e-mails to HBO, Showtime and Starz about showing movies in letterbox format. HBO did show its movie about an arsonist in letterbox format, but that was made for HBO. With each service having so many channels, I even suggested a letterbox channel that would show the same movie at the same time as the standard channel but in letterbox format. So far, no response.

I'd be happy if they ran some showings of the each movie cropped and some in original screen ratio, but a letterbox channel sounds even better!

They did it to Hannibal as well.
