HELP -- Can't backup!!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I am trying to backup my 14 hour Tivo's drive to upgrade to twin 120 gig Maxtor drives with a TurboNet, but i am unable to. I run the line:

mfsbackup -6so /mnt/c/tivo.bak /dev/hdc

to try to backup before installing the TurboNet, but i get the following error:

/mnt/c/tivo.bak : No such file or directory

I was also having troubles mounting my drives, but found that i could mount hda1 of type 'devpts' is this correct? Could this have something to do with it?

Other info: I am using Tiger's version 2 software, as well as Hinsdale's guide to try to upgrade.

Thanks in advance
Brad

Tell us about your computer setup. Namely, how your drives are connected.

FWIW, devpts is NOT the corect tye for your HD.

the reason that i chose devpts for my file system type is because it was the only one that would work. whenever i would try to mount my C drive, it would tell me that i had to specify a file system.

My system is set up as follows:
primary master - C Drive
primary slave - NEW TiVo A drive (120 gig)
secondary master - old TiVo drive (14 gig)
secondary slave - CD-ROM drive

There is also a bunch of SCSI stuff hooked up, but i disconnected it from the motherboard just for simplicity in UNIX.

any help would be great.

Thanks,
Brad

I am no Linux expert, but shouldn't the backup command be:

mfsbackup -6so /mnt/dos/tivo.bak /dev/hdc

Not sure what the c you have in your cmd line will do?

Posted by: bschwarz6

the c in my 'mfsbackup -6so /mnt/c/tivo.bak /dev/hdc ' line is simply a mounted drive. insead of your line 'mount /dev/hda1 /mnt/dos' i used 'mount /dev/hda1 /mnt/c' for my own simplicity

does anyone else have any idea what format i should be using to mount these drives?? or has anyone else run into a problem like this?

TIA,
Brad

Do you run Windows2000 or XP? If so, you probably can't save your file on that drive.
