My cousin has a tivo that the hard drive is going bad. I have two hard drives from my tivo's that I have upgraded. Can I put my hard drive in his Tivo and have it work ? (My cousins Tivo is a 212 and my hard drive is from a 212)

Yes. You can take the drive set from one standalone TiVo and put it in another unit without problems most of the time.
Some limitations:
- Series1 to S1 and S2 to S2, no S1 to S2 or vice versa
- Receipient unit must have had the version of SW sometime in its life. It is bad to give a unit 3.0 if still is at 2.5. Also bad to give a unit 1.3 if it shipped with 2.0

Thanks for the quick reply. I know that the drive will read the new service number from the hardware is that a problem?

Nope no problems with the service number. He'll maintain his service, but he'll end up with any season passes, thumbs, wishlists, recordings, etc that were on those drives when you took them out. He may want to do a "clear and reset" everything so he can start over.
