Hi,

I went through the new MFS upgrade (went the floppy route) and everything went fine.
However, when I was putting the disks back into the TiVo, a pin on the IDE connector broke on my original A drive. Now, the TiVo just goes through the boot process over and over.
Anyone know if this disk can be repaired somehow? I can see a little piece of the prong that broke still in there.
Barring that, can I resotre the backup to the new 120gb drive I bought for the upgrade? Does the drive have to be formatted somehow? I have an ATTiVo. I am a bit confused reading the Hinsdale instructions in that I don't quite know what to do to restore to a brand new drive.
Thanks for any help. I feel like a loser breaking that prong.

Did you create a backup file? Usually the examples show tivo.bak or something like that and it ends up on your PC's C drive.

If you are just adding a drive, you do not have to backup - so you may not have a backup.

I am sure you can get the drive fixed, but you need to send it to a drive repair place or maybe a local electronics repair place. It will probably cost significantly more than a new drive though and if you ask nicely someone can get you a new drive image.

I did do a backup thank goodness. I am just not sure if I have to format the new disk I have in order to restore the back up and use it as the new A drive. Right now the new disk is my New B drive.

Nope. Just run MFSTools restore and it will build the disk for you.

Ok, that worked. Whew! Now I have to take it out again and get the TiVo to see the fact that there is a bigger A drive.
Almost there.

All is well now. :D

I have a single 120gb drive in the ATTiVo. Unfortunately I didn't get what I originally set out for but I guess I will save up for another 120gb and add that when the time comes.

Thanks to Tiger and Hinsdale for their hard work. It is much apperciated!

Did I get this right? one of the pin broke off?
well, if thats the case, I had that happen once to me.
I just used soldiered the pin back on.
took a bit of time, and I ended up cutting some of the plastic off.
but hey, that saved me some money..

You got it right.
Don't know where the piece is that broke off. I don't think I would attempt that though. I wouldn't even know where to begin.
