Sharing Recordings Between TiVos?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I've done a search and plowed through the FAQs. I probably missed it among all the detailed how-to information.

What I would love to be able to do is one of two things:

1. Archive recordings onto a PC from a DirecTiVo and then retrieve them later for playback on another DirecTiVo.

2. Access one DirecTiVo's recordings from another and play them back on the other. This could be via copy or in-place if the network were fast enough.

What I've seen leads me to believe some of this is possible, but it seems to get tied up in the "thou shalt not extract streams" discussions. Managing program guides and using the internet to do call-ins is nice, but "sharing" recordings among my TiVos is really what I'd like to be able to do.

Has this been done?

Thanks in advance.

Thou shalt not talk about extracting streams here. Enough said. You won't get any help here. Do a search if you want to find out why- there have been about 50 threads on this topic in the past.

TiVo has indicated that they want to allow the sharing of recordings between units within a household only. However, they have not elaborated beyond that. I take that to mean we may or may not see it in our lifetime (or maybe after the SonicBlue lawsuit is resolved.) Don't hold your breath.
