Problems with an upgraded unit

Hi Otto. Hi everyone. It has been over a year since I have been on these forums. I understand a lot has changed for the better in TiVo hacking.
I have a refurbed HDR 112 that I added 60Gb drive. I am currently running version 3.0.
Here is my problem:
Sometimes my TiVo will hang and I think that it might be one (or both) of the drives going bad. I can hear the familar noise of the hard drive seeking for a good sector. Other times the TiVo will run fine which leaves me to belive that I have bad sectors on one of the disks.
It is possible to pull the 2 drives out of my TiVo, throw them into a PC, and somehow pull version 3.0 (and maybe my >1 year worth of user settings) and place that information on a couple of newer (and bigger) drives? What tools should I use for this? Is there already a thread that covers this that I missed?
...or could my problem be something else?
Thanks for all the help this community has given me back when I was new to this.

HotFix,
Sounds like your diagnosis is correct. Fortuantely for you, Tiger just released MFSTools 2.0 and from all reports, it's the greatest thing since sliced bread! See the sticky thread on this forum for details. You should be able to copy your existing recordings to a new drive or drives with little or no muss or fuss. 3.0 is not a problem either!
Good luck!

I just read Tiger's post myself and this sounds perfect for me.
I think it is probably my A drive, but I am not sure. It wouldn't hurt to upgrade that little thing anyway.

Well my hard drive just arivved but my TiVo dies a week ago. I think the A drive just went. I am hoping to get an image from a friends until and see if that works.
Can I pull the 2 drives out and put two marriade drives in from a another HDR112 and would it still work?

My drives TiVo drive is dead and I got a image of a HDR112 14hour with V3.0 from a nice fellow up here. Problem is, mfs tools is looking for tivo.bak and I have a bunch of Phillips_HDR112_3.0.part01.rar -Phillips_HDR112_3.0.part10.rar
Is there something I'm missing? Should I use another tool to restore this TiVo image to a new drive?

What you need to do is use a program like WinRAR to take those .rar files and decompress/combine them. Go to download.com and search for RAR.
Once combined/uncompressed, you'll have the file you're looking for!

It seems that all of the Phillips_HDR112_3.0.partxx.rar files want to be a HDR112.30.mfs file and over-write one another. I guess I need to play with this some more.

If you're having trouble with the image that was given to you, there are a few FTP sites out there that host various TiVo drive images.
Be warned not to load an image that has a software version that is earlier than what your unit was shipped with.
Go to google.com and search their "Groups" for: Tivo Image FTP
Note you have to select "groups" which will search news groups.
Browse through their images and download one that fits your needs.

I think my the backup image is fine. It is probably just me. All the image sites I found linked back to where I got this one from.
