Yellow Star Content and Parental Controls

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I noticed that even with Parental Controls turned on and set to the most restrictive, allowing only content appropriate for my toddlers (TV-Y), TiVo still allows playing of the content available under the Yellow Star, which is currently a music video that I would not consider to be rated TV-Y.

Usually, non-rated content requires the password no matter what the parental controls are set to. But not in this case.

TiVo: Please either rate the yellow star content and enforce it under the Parental Controls setting, or always require the password when Parental Controls are enabled.

Also: The same should be true of any content under Showcases (or anywhere else for that matter). But so far Showcase content has been innocuous, from what I've seen.

Note: I'm not terribly upset about this, personally, but I do think it should be corrected.

I completely agree with you on this. I brought this issue up earlier with regards to the Mr. Deeds promo. I didn't like the fact that the preview for a PG-13 movie could be seen regardless of the parental control settings.

Admittedly, my argument was weak because the preview itself was approved for all audiences. But I hadn't considered that some people might find the Cheryl Crow video objectionable for their kids.

Better yet, determine what materials to put under the yellow star based on the parental control settings. If parental controls are turned off, allow PG-13 material. If parental controls are on, allow only G-rated content.

Yes, this is something that TiVo needs to address.

I think it's the Counting Crows video that is inappropriate for young kids, not the Cheryl Crow video. :)

I'm not talking about movie previews.

I have yet to see any of the content from Teleworld.

I agree, this doesn't affect me personally, but if you don't want your child seeing it, tivo shouldn't force it on them. And who can turn down the yellow star?
