A few basic Tivo-over-ethernet questions

Well, the modem in my Philips 212 went sneakers-up.....again. This time it's out of warranty. Not crazy about paying them $100+ to fix it when I could buy a Turbonet card for less. SO...... a few simple questions:
1. Why is program guide data even available on the net? Does Tivo "support" users retrieving it this way? Is it likely that they may at some point just arbitrarily turn it off?
2. I guess this speaks to quesion number 1, but why does ver 3 of the software include drivers for TurboNet? Is Tivo "officially" endorsing this product, or are they just catering to the wishes of the hacker community, or is it something else?
3. I realize the program guide data can be pulled from their site, but what about software updates or whatever else they might need to distribute?
4. I have ver 3 of the software now, so my understanding is that I can't give the Tivo a static IP. I have a Linksys BFSR-41. The DHCP server is enabled, but currently all my computers have static IPs to allow for port forwarding (running a Redhat 7.2 box with Apache and vsftpd). My static IPs start at 192.168.1.2. I have DHCP set to start at .100. Will this work OK? Mixing static and DHCP?
I think that's about it for now. Appreciate any and all insight you folks can provide.

1 -3 )The Tivo always gets it's data off the net. Normally it dials up to a private ISP that only has access to the Tivo servers. Anything you can do with a Tico modem (besides DirecTV calls) you can do with a broadband connection. They unofficially support the netcards as it saves them some money, and it makes Tivo users happy.
4) It's fine. If you set your DHCP to start at .100 and only allow 1 device to connect, your Tivo will always be .100 - I have a Linksys for my home network, with mixed fixed IP's and DHCP.
