My tivo has not been able to connect to the service for about 5 months, I'm pretty sure my software is 2.5. I'm adding turbonet right this moment. After it connects to tivo, I think I will most likely get a new software download. Will this wipe out my newly installed turbonet driver? If so, do I just then reload the driver? I'm a total newbie at this if this post seems elementary.

Yes and no

It will upgrade to 3.0 and it has built in drivers for Turbonet but you will have to have a DHCP server or a router that has it built in.
