Tivo 2 VS. Replay TV 4500 - Interesting Battle
(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have been debating on this issue for quite some time. The Tivo seems to be much more intuitive and user friendly, however, the Replay TV 4500 seems to be more loaded with functionality. Quick skipping...commercial advance....networking.....organizing shows in folders (a great feature to have since everything is neatly in one place)
Any advise or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much for your time,
Regards,
Uzi

The 3.x software has 'un'support for networking (at least for the retrieval of guide data). I've got a USB Ethernet adapter on my Series 2 downloading guide data over the Internet every 26 (or so) hours. I mentioned the 30 sec skip in your other thread.

If you want to "extract" or share video with others that you've recorded with your PVR, the Replay seems to be the way to go, as TiVo frowns upon such practices...

My take so far is that if you're more interested in playing with or collecting video (archiving it, shuttling it around networks, etc) than in simply watching it and you don't mind giving up a good amount of reliability, ease of use, and general smarts in recording shows in the first place, Replay might be a better choice. If you're more concerned with making sure the shows you want get recorded as flexibly, easily and predictably as possible, Tivo is the way to go.
